Spring is stepping up to the springboard! With just a few weeks to go (yay!) and some promising news from a certain groundhog, winter is finally on its way out. While it’ll be a while yet before we can get to work on our gardens, there’s lots of fun to be had with early spring fashion and decor. Here’s some inspiration for the home and wardrobe from Tsuga Boutique!
Spring Decor and Accessories For the Home
Getting your home ready for spring is about more than spring decor; it’s about ushering in a lighter, airier feeling. These ideas will help you keep your home, body, and mind feeling clean and refreshed.
Roll Out the Welcome Mat!
Sure, April showers bring May flowers, but we know what March brings—a whole lot of muck! Isn’t it funny how, as soon as the snow starts to melt, the floors seem to magically dirty themselves? Fortunately, you do have a first line of defense, and they’re pretty darn cute! Our spring-themed welcome mats are so adorable. Your household won’t be able to help but stop and stomp off some of that gritty melt before stepping inside.
Bee Clean!
We’re all washing our hands like mad these days. Combined with the cold weather, our skin is taking a bit of a beating. Soft As Can Bee bar soap was developed by aspiring entrepreneurs at the University of Guelph using naturally soothing and moisturizing beeswax to make a gentle hand wash that smells incredible.
That’s not even the best part; a portion of their proceeds go to the Honey Bee Research Centre at the University of Guelph, which works toward supporting healthier bee colonies. A win for you, a win for local students, and a win for the environment!
Get a Glow Up
Let’s face it; spring cleaning is not a one-day thing; it’s a weekly (or even daily) regimen. Once the toys are picked up, floors vacuumed, and muddy paw prints mopped up, there’s a special satisfaction in relaxing in a clean home.
Try this ritual to get even more enjoyment out of those “home resets”: place translucent glass tealight holders around the house, light and insert tealights, and turn the lights down to enjoy the ambience. This is a wonderful wind-down routine for parents if you like to clean up after the kids are in bed. (It’s even nicer with some relaxing music, a book, and a glass of wine!)
Improve Focus and Relieve Stress
If you thought jigsaw puzzles were a relic of your childhood, think again. Puzzles are back in a big way thanks to their abilities to help people challenge their brains, improve their concentration skills, and help melt away stress.
We carry a large selection of puzzles for all ages, from preschool-level floor puzzles for little Einsteins, 500-piece puzzles to occupy the school-aged spring breaker, to 1000-piece puzzles to help you unwind after a long day. (We love how this botanical-themed model doubles as an intriguing spring decor piece!)
Early Spring Fashions for Your Wardrobe
It’s time to swap that heavy coat for lighter fabrics and layers galore.
Fabulous Florals
It’ll be a few weeks yet before the flowers start poking out, but just because we can’t see them doesn’t mean we can’t wear them! Floral print is a classic standby, and few things will get you into the “spring mindset” faster. This bright floral top in white rayon is light, airy, and transitions beautifully into summer, while this gorgeous black rose-print blouse with keyhole detail is perfect for date night. For those late-spring-into-summer patio days, this fun bright-on-black floral dress is all you need to make a splash!
Lovely Layers
If this isn’t your first year in Guelph, you know that our spring weather is temperamental. It could be balmy one day and February-esque the next! This is why I love to stock my closet with lots of layering pieces; they’re easy to mix and match, and you can stylishly bundle up or down as needed depending on the forecast. Consider using the “capsule wardrobe” principle and make a few key layering pieces the core of your wardrobe; one sleeveless top, one short-sleeve, one long-sleeve, one sweater, and one light jacket. You can create virtually endless outfit options with these five pieces without breaking a sweat (or catching a chill, as it were).
Stay Active!
One of the best things about this spring is, of course, spring itself! As the mercury rises, long walks outside will only get more appealing, and that calls for some cute and comfy styles that exercise with you. These super-stretchy and durable bamboo leggings (also available in plus size) move with you without feeling restrictive.
If you prefer more bottom coverage, this absolutely amazing button-up dress has that classic spring trench coat shape and colour but can be worn as a dress or an elegant open jacket. Or, if you rock the leggings-as-pants look, pair with a sporty-yet-understated rain jacket or this sunny button-up jacket in the Pantone Colour of the Year, Illuminating Yellow!
Fresh Accessories
If you like to change up your handbag with the seasons, we’re happy to say that “roomy and practical” is in this season. This bucket-style handbag by Louenhide has some great details and still has enough room to keep all your must-haves close. If you love light colours, you’ll fall in love with this blush-pink tote with gold zipper detail—very spring fashion!
