Here at Royal City Nursery, we are excited about all things growing!! That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce Dave as the newest team member and new Head of our Landscape Department! For years, Dave has been involved in behind-the-scenes work at Royal City Nursery and we have looked forward to the day when he would head up the landscape division! He brings over 30 years of landscape knowledge and experience to our department – and we’re excited to offer our clients his talent and fresh perspective on outdoor living spaces!
To us, landscape design has always been about more than just choosing the right plants, colours of mulch, or type of stone. It’s about lifestyle and the blending of various areas of expertise. It starts with your expertise – no one knows you better than you! That’s why we get to know you, understanding your lifestyle, your vision for the space, and exactly what YOU want to get out of your backyard. Once we’ve established what your vision is, we integrate the ‘science’ into how we develop the design – types of soil and soil conditions, land gradation, sunlight considerations – and build on these natural elements by choosing the right hardscape and softscape materials to create a harmonious and beautiful space that will thrive for years to come.
It’s Dave’s extensive background in Landscape Architecture and Design and his passion for landscape that makes him the perfect fit to head up the division and keep driving it forward! Since his teen years, he has been involved in the background workings of landscape through jobs such as lawn and golf course maintenance and potting annuals for sales across North American grocery stores. He attended and graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, which is where he met Tanya, who was also pursuing the same degree!
Dave has over 30 years’ experience in the landscape world, having been the lead foreman for a large scale, high-end residential landscape company in Toronto for 22 years, where he installed landscapes within the 100K-2M range, and ran two different crews in up to three different site locations at one time! Recognizing the importance of knowledge and how it’s the base of offering clients the best services and products available, he continues to keep learning, having attained the Red Seal Horticulture Technician designation in 2013. He also regularly keeps updated in new methods and techniques as he has taught Landscape Construction in the Horticulture Apprenticeship Program for the last 12 years at Humber and Mohawk College, as well as Landscape Construction Practices for the Landscape Technician Diploma Program at Humber College.
So, what sets Dave apart from other landscape designers? In addition to his experience and knowledge of both the industry and the workings behind Royal City Nursery, it’s his passion that is so evidently displayed in every one of his projects. At the heart of each outdoor landscape is the expression of a personal way of life, and in addition to completing unique, high-quality designs and delivering professional installation, Dave ensures each client has a space uniquely their own and that they’ll love for years to come.
